Dr. Chad Catron understands how important your smile’s appearance is to your sense of self-confidence. If you have an unappealing tooth in your smile with discolored tooth enamel or a physical imperfection like a chip or old filling, he might recommend replacing the entire tooth enamel layer with a porcelain dental crown.

The dental-grade porcelain material can be shaded to a brilliant white. If you have other teeth in your smile with dental stains, this might also be a good time to ask your dentist about a dental bleaching treatment. Your dentist can then match the shade of your final porcelain crown to fit in with the new gleam of your smile.

Your dentist will start by examining the tooth and taking some X-rays. It’s important to make sure that the core structures of the tooth are healthy and strong.

Next, he will then numb the area with Novocain before using a drill to remove all of the existing tooth enamel. This leaves behind the dentin core of the tooth, which will serve as an abutment to eventually anchor your crown.

Our team will then create an impression of the area before securing a temporary crown in place over the abutment. The impression will then be sent to a dental lab where your new crown will be produced.

You will need to come back for a second appointment when your new crown is completed. During this session, your dentist will remove the temporary crown before using a strong dental adhesive to secure the porcelain crown onto the abutment.
